Mount Taranaki is an active volcano in Taranaki New Zealand. Known also as Mount Egmont. The mountain is 2518 meters high and forms Egmont National Park. The mountain is a local icon and can be seen from a majority of the regions that it surrounds. It was also the back drop to the file “The Last Samurai” which featured Tom Cruise.
Mount Taranaki’s eastern slopes are operated as the Manganui ski fields. Many people climb the mountain annually but it has also claimed the life’s of many hikers.
